paula.dellaroza@educo.orgProject summary
This project provides rapid humanitarian response in Catanduanes, an area highly vulnerable to typhoons and climate-related risks. Educo and UNICEF establish safe spaces for children, provide psychological first aid, strengthen protection pathways, and train teachers and local staff to offer psychosocial support. The intervention incorporates accountability mechanisms and prepares communities for future disasters, reducing children’s vulnerabilities in climate emergency contexts.
Why was the project developed?
Catanduanesis repeatedly hit by severe typhoons and consecutive storms that impact infrastructure, education, and children’s mental health. There are persistent gaps in local protection mechanisms, psychosocial support, and disaster preparedness. To address these gaps, UNICEF and Educo designed a rapid response initiative that strengthens local capacities, provides emotional support, establishes safe spaces, and improves coordination to protect children during climate-related crises.
