Project summary

The project enhances environmental governance and sustainable natural resource management in Mozambique by strengthening local civil society organizations (CSOs) and increasing youth participation. It focuses on building CSO capacities for sustainable resource management, fostering political dialogue, and promoting environmental awareness among citizens. The project also emphasizes the inclusion of women and youth, aiming to create a resilient and informed community capable of addressing environmental challenges.

This approach is crucial in Mozambique because it buikds resilient, inclusive communities by strenghtening civil society and youth leadership to drive sustainable resource management and environmental governance.

Examples of activities

  • Technical training for CSOs working in the environmental field in Mozambique (climate change, environmental management, legal framework, environmental monitoring, advocacy, etc).
  • Structuring a national network of environmental CSOs through an innovative digital platform.
  • Case studies on the use of natural resources in coastal ecosystems in Mozambique (Cabo Delgado, Nampula, Zambèzia and Maputo) and production of advocacy documents.
  • Establishment of coordination and dialogue spaces (e.g. round tables) between civil society and policy makers Policymakers.
  • Lobbying activities with Ministry of Education and Human Development (Ministèrio da Educaá„o e Desenvolvimento Humano – MINEDH) to include environmental education in the national curriculum through the development of a manual.
  • Production of toolkits for the nationwide community environmental awareness campaign and public debates.
  • Campaign and community awareness training.
  • Training course for young environmental ambassadors on community awareness, identified through the National Volunteer Council.
  • Training young journalists and influencers in journalism and environmental communication techniques and an annual prize.
  • National online forum for young ambassadors and exchange with Fridays for Future at regional and global level.
