Project summary

The project contributes to strengthening the resilience of children, adolescents and youth in the municipality of La Paz, through:

  • Building knowledge and capacities of children and teachers through environmental education and action.
  • Implementation of environmentally sound practices in schools.
  • Reduction of disaster risks in schools, specifically the lack of water. Includes improving water harvesting systems, capacity building and the development of contingency plans.
  • Promoting young people’s agency throughclimate agenda led by them and the implementation of sustainable ventures in the field of circular economy.
  • Support to the municipal government for the reinforcement of environmental management through the promotion of spaces for collaborative dialogue, in which civil society organizations, children and adolescents will participate.

Why was the project developed?

Negative impacts on the environment deepen the fragile living conditions of most Bolivians, forcing people to move into areas of greater vulnerability in the near future. Environmental degradation also affect the realisation of children rights, and, due to the potential of this phenomenon to generate a multidimensional impact, the ability of States to respond adequately and protect all children rights is compromised. Developing countries such as Bolivia find it difficult to maintain their commitments in this sense. This is why environmental protection work, in its many forms, is essential to make progress in guaranteeing the exercise of children rights.
