Project summary

The project protects and enhances the ecosystem services of the Rusizi River basin using a Nexus approach for water, energy, and food. It improves potable water supply services through the participation of local populations, including women, youth, and vulnerable groups, and public authorities in Cibitoke, Bumbanza, and Bujumbura Rural. Key results include improved water resource management practices among the population, enhanced performance of rural water supply authorities, better management by delegated operators, and improved support, monitoring, and evaluation mechanisms for rural water supply services

Why was the project developed?

This project is important in Burundi because poor water quality leads to raft of diseases and affects food systems. With the impacts of climate change, water quality is at increased risk.
